About this website and its author

Hi. My name is Chris Contolini.

This is my personal horizicroblog. I originally wanted a micro-blog. Then I wanted a horizontal blog (because I’d never seen one before). So I settled on a micro-blog that expands horizontally into a full blog.

It makes use of jquery and a great plugin. I used to run a popular geoblog until I became distracted by vintage bicycles and a job.

I am an altruistic egoist with a deep affinity for web design, HCI, spray paint, ginger beer, ducks, word play, contradictions, rasterbation, perturbation, petrol stations (for the smell), fixing things, breaking things and vicious, self-imposed cycles. I do not consume meat or dairy, but I occasionally eat fish.

I live in San Francisco in an old five-bedroom victorian. I hold a B.A. In Philosophy and a B.A. in Media Studies.

In college I was a closet neo-luddite immersed in technology. Some people would say, “Chris, doesn’t that make you a hypocrite?” to which I would respond, “your mom.” Followed by, “how can I despise something I do not truly know? Would not that make me a bigot?”

I live by the following five mantras (these change as I grow):

  • Avoid reliance upon technologies you do not understand.
  • Pride is not a sin, but a restraint.
  • Launch early and iterate [ripped from Google].
  • Buy secondhand whenever possible.
  • Avoid meat and dairy whenever possible.

The Contolini name can be traced to Avesa in northern Italy. My mother is of Sicilian blood. I have lived on the west coast of the United States my entire life.
